APPLE TV UNVEILS FIRST LOOK AT NEW THRILLER BASED ON 'STUNNING' ROBERT DE NIRO FILM

Apple TV has unveiled a breathtaking first glimpse of a forthcoming drama boasting a remarkable ensemble of Hollywood legends.

Drawing from a celebrated film, which was itself adapted from a renowned classic crime novel, the psychological thriller is being shepherded to screens by executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

Cape Fear, inspired by Scorsese's 1991 reimagining of the Gregory Peck film from 1962 and originally based on the novel The Executioners, is a 10-part series arriving on the streaming platform this summer.

Academy Award winner Javier Bardem will portray the deranged killer Max Cady, who mercilessly pursues the happily married lawyers, Anna (portrayed by Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson), who were responsible for his imprisonment when he's freed from jail.

Creator Nick Antosca (Netflix's Brand New Cherry Flavor) is masterminding this iteration of the dark thriller, with director Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) directing the opening episode, reports the Mirror.

Additional cast members include CCH Pounder (Avatar), Jamie Hector (Bosch), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs).

The initial images from the series released by Apple TV this week reveal a menacing Bardem whilst Wilson and Adams' characters brace themselves for their world to collapse around them. If the reimagining of Cape Fear as a miniseries can match the brilliance of its cinematic predecessors, viewers are in for an enthralling yet unsettling ride that will linger long after the final scene.

One IMDb user lauded the 1991 iteration, featuring Robert De Niro as Cady, with a perfect score, commenting: "A real classic. Way much better than the old version. De Niro is brilliant, as always.

"The movie is gripping from [the] start....the atmosphere is scary. The music, the cinematography as we see De Niro in his cell for the very first time. The cast is amazing.

"I saw this movie first at 1991. Since then I have seen it several times. This is the perfect thriller!"

Another admirer hailed it as "Absolutely stunning!", adding: "To me this was one of the best thrillers from the nineties. Martin Scorsese brought us yet again another jewel of a movie. The way of filming and the soundtrack keeps the viewer in suspense until the end."

A final fan warned that Cape Fear "will haunt you in your sleep", writing: "Martin Scorsese has directed some of the greatest films ever made: Taxi Driver, GoodFellas, Mean Streets, and Raging Bull to name a few.

"Now he attempts for the first time to direct a remake, not only better, but a masterpiece of punishment and guilt that will leave audiences in a shock."
