A first official look at Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Poldark's Aidan Turner in Disney+'s new Jilly Cooper adaptation Rivals has been released.

The new eight-part show is set in the social elite of the 1980s and focuses on the rivalry between powerful men Lord Tony Baddingham (Tennant), the controller of Corinium Television, and MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell).

A first look at the cast in character has been released, including Tennant's Baddingham on a countryside hunt, as well as Turner's moustachioed TV presenter Declan O’Hara, who is caught in the feud between the two powerful men.

Also seen are Black Lightning's Nafessa Williams as American TV executive Cameron Cook, Here We Go's Katherine Parkinson as romantic novelist Lizzie Vereker, and Sex Education's Bella Maclean as Declan's strong-willed daughter Taggie O’Hara.

A previous glimpse at fellow stars Danny Dyer (EastEnders) and Emily Atack (The Inbetweeners) was previously revealed from set photos.

The series is also set to star Enola Holmes 2's Catriona Chandler, Foundation's Oliver Chris, Camping's Rufus Jones, Avoidance's Lisa McGrillis, Skins' Luke Pasqualino, Ali & Ava's Claire Rushbrook, Once Upon a Time's Victoria Smurfit, The Witcher's Anthony Byrne and Call the Midwife's Bryony Hannah.

Speaking previously about the adaptation of her Rutshire Chronicles novel, Cooper said: "I'm utterly enchanted to be able to announce our all-star line-up for Rivals.

"Featuring some of the best acting talent that the British Isles has to offer, I couldn't have dreamed of a better ensemble cast. I cannot wait to be on set and see them bring the characters I love so much to life.

"The minute we met with Alex, we knew he'd perfectly embody my all-time hero, the iconic, racy, ruthless, and devastatingly handsome, Rupert Campbell-Black. Viewers are in for a treat!"

Rivals will be released on Disney+ later this year.
