Culture Club star Boy George says that he felt his late mother 'grab' him to stop him plunging into a theatre pit and crushing an audience member in a near-disaster moment. The terrifying accident happened during a production of Moulin Rouge on Broadway in which he played Harold Zidler for a run of 10 weeks last year.
Speaking about the passing of his mum Dinah O'Dowd in 2023, the singer said: "There are no holes in the universe, so when she left, and I saw her go, whether it was my imagination or not is irrelevant but I saw my mum leave herself, and I was like ‘oh my god she’s like a little tortoise’
“But then I thought, ‘Where has she gone?’ She’s still here."

Recalling the near-tragic fall he continued: "I was in Moulin Rouge one night and I nearly went over in the pit in these Cuban heels and I swear somebody grabbed me.
"Because I could’ve killed that person, there would have been a dead person in New York because I would’ve fell on top of them."
Boy George, 64, added that he constantly feels her presence and he regularly talks to her as he firmly believes that she is still with him.
Speaking on Happy Place, he continued: "There was like little five/ ten minutes where I wouldn't be on stage and I'd be in a back area and I used to sit there and talk to my mum and go ‘You would’ve f***ing loved it here’.
"My mum would’ve loved New York and me doing Moulin Rouge. She would have loved it, she would’ve been in the font like ‘Go on son’ she was always at all my gigs and new all the lyrics even the most obscure ones.
“In my mum’s case she’s everywhere, she’s in the cupboards, under my hat, you know she is everywhere. She is a frequency."
