OUTNUMBERED FANS OBSESSED WITH REAL-LIFE COUPLE PLAYING PARTNERS ON SCREEN AS SHOW RETURNS

It’s official, Outnumbered is coming back to screens for a 2024 Christmas special, and fans have noticed one very special detail.

Gavin and Stacey isn’t the only iconic sitcom returning for a special episode this year, the BBC announced on Thursday.

The award-winning comedy starringHugh Dennis as dad Pete and Claire Skinner as mum Sue is making its comeback this festive season, with a plot summary teasing that the revival will ‘follow the chaos in the downsized home of Pete and Sue Brockman, as they grapple with the challenges of parenting kids who are now adults, with their own lives to lead.’

In news that will be music to fans’ ears, stars of the original much-loved series are returning for the special episode, including Tyger Drew-Honey as eldest son Jake, Daniel Roche as the middle child Ben, and Ramona Marquez as the daughter, Karen.

But as thrilled fans are for the show to return, one detail about the cast is making them even more excited.

For the first time, Hugh and Claire will be playing on screen partners as well as being in a real life relationship.

The co-stars surprised fans – and themselves – in 2018 when it was confirmed that they began dating a year earlier after their splits from their respective partners.

They’ve kept their relationship low-key but at the time, Hugh said: ‘I am very, very happy, we are so very happy. It’s nice and yes, it’s so lovely.’

Meanwhile, Claire called their romance a ‘lovely little life surprise’ during an appearance on Lorraine.

Fan Willow gushed on X: ‘What’s cute is that Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner, Pete and Sue, have been dating since 2017 so this will be the first time they’re playing a couple and are actually a couple.’

‘This will also be the first episode since Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner got together IRL,’ Alex echoed.

Rij had previously written: ‘nothing brings me more happiness than Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner being together irl after outnumbered ended. that’s parents.’
