STRANGER THINGS STAR SHARES SHOCKING OPINION ON THE SHOW’S FINALE

Stranger Things star Matthew Modine has shared his shocking opinion on the show’s finale. The beloved sci-fi show came to an end after wrapping up its fifth and final season with a two-hour episode that aired on Netflix on New Year's Eve.

The last ever episode saw the gang save Hawkins from the evil clutches of Vecna and the Mind Flayer, destroying the Upside Down once and for all.

The controversial ending saw Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven sacrifice herself to the soundtrack of Prince’s 'Purple Rain', though Finn Wolfhard's Mike later offered up an alternative ending in which Eleven is still alive.

The ending divided fans, with a fan theory that a secret ninth episode titled 'Conformity Gate' was due to be released on 7 January gaining traction in the aftermath of the finale.

Though it proved to be untrue, fans were convinced that their disappointment in the finale meant that the ending was actually a contorted version of reality created by Vecna and the audience and Mike were under his curse.

Speaking about the end of the popular show, Modine, who played Dr Martin Brenner, voiced his opinion on the finale via a post on social media.

Affectionately referred to as Papa by fans, the name Eleven gave him in the show, Modine was asked if he "liked" the finale.

Commenting on one of Modine's Instagram posts, the fan asked: "Hey papa did you like the finale of Stranger Things?"

Not mincing his words, the actor replied: "Nope."

While he is yet to elaborate on why he was disappointed with the final season, Modine also touched on the prospect of another secret episode.

Asked: "Does papa believe in stranger things episode 9?", Modine responded, saying: "Hoping so for the fans."

Responding to another fan, who asked if he still believes Eleven is alive following the ending of the show, Modine said: "One can hope."

While the actor is hoping for more, Modine's character would likely never return, considering he was killed off in the penultimate episode of Stranger Things 4 after being shot multiple times by a sniper.

Stranger Things seasons 1-5 are streaming on Netflix.
