EASTENDERS' MARTIN FOWLER STAR QUESTIONS RUBY ALLEN EXIT PLOT HOLE

The Slater family is never too far away from drama with one of the youngest members of the family, Lily Slater (played by Lilia Turner) pregnant at just 12 years old. Mum Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and step-dad Martin Fowler (James Bye) weren't initially keen on her having the baby but are now supporting the youngster through the pregnancy. But fans will remember it wasn't too long ago when Stacey and Martin were at loggerheads.

In 2021, Stacey returned to Albert Square with daughter Lily to find her former best friend Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) was in a relationship with her ex-husband Martin.

There was plenty of tension with the ex-friends giving death stares and slagging each other off at every opportunity.

Meanwhile, Ruby was desperate to have a baby with Martin and did actually fall pregnant.

The couple were delighted with the news but sadly, she quietly suffered a miscarriage, not telling anyone what had happened.

Another row then broke out between her and Stacey at Ruby's - now called Peggy's - in the hallway.

As Ruby turned to walk away, she tripped and fell down the stairs with Stacey looking on in horror.

Despite not touching her, Ruby angrily claimed Stacey pushed her down the stairs, resulting in the loss of the baby.

Stacey continued to shout from the rooftops she didn't push Ruby but no one believed her and was sent to prison.

With her rival out of the picture, Ruby later developed a bond with Stacey's mum Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) as she was struggling to conceive again after the miscarriage.

Ruby, in an overly emotional moment, did admit the truth to Jean that Stacey didn't cause the fall and took drastic action to ensure she kept quiet.

Big Mo (Laila Morse) was storing cannabis plants in the Slaters' garage and Jean was desperate to get rid of the plants.

Friend Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) was able to help but Ruby took advantage of the situation and told the police that Jean was selling drugs.

She was arrested but, of course, Jean wasn't going to take this lying down and lied to the police, telling them that Ruby was the one who supplied the drugs to her in the first place.

Ruby was subsequently arrested but as she was being driven off, she tried to tell Martin she was pregnant.

He thought she was lying, just to get out of the mess she caused and as the police car left Walford, Ruby clutched her stomach, indicating she was telling the truth.

Martin Fowler star James Bye recently told RadioTimes.com he was eager to know what happened next to Ruby after she was charged.

He said: "I want to know what happened to the baby that Ruby had?

EastEnders' Stacey Slater and Martin Fowler 'will get close' [EXPLAINER]

"Ruby left with the baby, and I don't know if they were planning on bringing that back. But there's some insane stuff coming," he continued.

"You just don't know with EastEnders - they're great at bringing the material. It's a fantastic place to be at the moment."

As of yet, there has been no word on if Ruby will be returning to EastEnders in the future.

But given the storyline involving Lily's pregnancy, it doesn't seem likely this will come into play any time soon.

Bye also teased there could be future scenes with him and actress Turner, with their characters Martin and Stacey once again growing closer.

He added: "The great thing [executive producer] Chris [Clenshaw] does is he hints at stuff without giving too much away. For me as an actor, knowing some of the stuff coming in...

"There are some storylines with Stacey. Martin and Stacey get quite close.

"I won't tease in what way, romantically or not, but they've got a nice storyline coming up. Obviously, we know the baby's coming..."

EastEnders continues three nights a week on BBC One.
